Pacific Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship
820 Alameda Avenue - Astoria - Oregon - service at 11 a.m.
Sunday, September eleventh, will be the first children's Religious Education class of the church year at the Pacific Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Come to church with your youngsters and talk to your unchurched friends with children who might be interested.
The class is free to all, and all ages are welcome. We do ask that all families fill out a registration form when they arrive.
Our first project this year will have each kid make his or her own "talking stick". Last year we used Nancy's talking stick during our sharing time. A tradition of native people: When you hold the talking stick, you have the right to talk without interruption. When another person has the talking stick, you have the responsibility to listen quietly and with respect to him or her. The talking sticks are made of natural materials and are beautifully decorated.
To decorate the talking sticks, we’ll be using materials available to the native peoples 200 years ago, in honor of Astoria’s bicentennial. That means wood, glass, ceramic, bone, feathers, etc. If you have any small items you could give us that we could use on our talking sticks, please bring them with you on Sunday, the 11th. This applies to the children themselves, their families, and all our church members and friends.
This year's theme is "Helping". It’s a natural progression of last year's theme, "Tolerance". We have several community service projects in mind. However, anyone with ideas about projects in which we could participate, please talk to Connie Moore or Nancy Logan on Sunday morning or call Nancy at 360 665 0552.
